budget bathroom tips

If your bathroom has seen better days but you haven’t got the bankroll to go all out and remodel it, there is still plenty which you can do to give it a new lease of life. We have several options which you could look into which will make your bathroom feel totally different, without having to spend big. The bathroom is not only a place which should be functional, it should also look great, and here is how to go about doing  just that.

Change The Accessories

By changing smaller details and accessories like bathroom taps, soap dishes, toothbrush holders and towel rails the bathroom will look entirely different. This isn’t going to be a highly cheap option but the cost of replacing these details pales in comparison to what you will be spending if you have to completely overhaul the bathroom’s fixtures and decoration. You’ll be amazed at how big a difference these small changes can make.

Painting Tiles

Something which a lot of people don’t know about is that tiles can be painted over. Many bathrooms are tile-heavy and if they have a basic design then you can paint over them in a color of your choice. Doing this yourself will keep labor costs down, and all you’ll be paying for is the tile paint.

Wallpaper Tiles

If you don’t currently have tiles in the room but you want to install them, this is going to cost you a pretty penny. The cheapest option however is not to install tiles at all, but to hang wallpaper which gives the illusion of tiles. Wallpaper is far cheaper than ceramic tiles and the look is almost identical. If you are adding the wallpaper behind bathroom sinks or in the shower, be sure that it is able to withstand steam and condensation.

Bring Nature In

A great way to refresh the appearance of your bathroom is to bring in items from nature and natural tones and textures. Wicker baskets for dirty laundry, linen curtains for the window and fresh plants will help you to breathe new life into the bathroom.

Replace The Mirror

A new mirror is a large feature in the bathroom and replacing what you currently have will make a large impact. Look to get a mirror with an ornate frame to elevate the level of luxury in your bathroom.

Upcycle

If you are looking for new cabinets or tables for your bathroom you may have been put off by the price. A much better idea is to dig around in thrift stores and look for a pet project which you can get to work on. Many of these items simply need to be sanded down, repainted and given some new fittings in order to restore them to their previous glories.

Deep Clean

As simple as it sounds, a deep clean could be just what your bathroom needs to look and feel better. Instead of simply wiping away dirt and grime, go to town on all four corners of the room. You’ll be amazed at how different the bathroom basin, for example, will look once you have really gone at it with some deep cleaning products and some elbow grease.

As you can see, a bathroom upgrade doesn’t have to involve an overhaul.
