Until we decide to move out of our homes, we never contemplate about the last time our bedroom was given more attention and a clean — most importantly to things that take up a large amount of space.
Imagine your bed mattress. You spend a third of your lives sleeping, finishing off work assignments, the midnight snacks alongside your furry friends occupying the corners.
As a result, what can gradually happen is a lot and they certainly can’t be good. In the wake of dust mites, secretion, odors, dead skin, rotten scraps, debris and fluid means causing your body severe harm. Possible diseases like allergy, fever, sneezing and watery eyes are some common visitors too.
So, what could be the solution? A specialized mattress cleaning session to be included in the to-do list.
Once you have gathered all the necessary supplies such as a vacuum with an upholstery attachment, enzyme cleaner/ dish soap, laundry detergent, baking soda, cleaning cloths and cold water, you can start with stripping the bed. Next, allow the bedding to have a nice clean in the wash.
Drizzle the baking soda over the bed to give your mattress a good massage. By letting the baking soda along with a few drops of essential oil, you’re allowing the process to thoroughly deep clean. This is really a great tactic for your mattress to remove most of the stubborn stains still remaining on the surface.
Now, you can gently clean the mattress using your vacuum cleaner’s upholstery attachment, not forgetting the corners and sides. You can also look into the seams and the crevice areas to sweep off any invisible grits.
You can use an enzyme cleaner to take off stains without letting out too much moisture and dappen the mattress. Afterwards, if you don’t want to use baking soda, you can put out your mattress in the sun and fresh air for a few hours to kill off bacteria and other mites.
No sooner you feel it’s time to take the mattress inside, thoroughly vacuum it up and cover it all with fresh bedding.
Every three months or so, make sure you flip the mattress to the side and get it cleaned as well for uniformity.
